The Chemistry Department at the College of Science Conducted a National Scientific Workshop

Under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science at the University of Zakho, the Chemistry Department successfully conducted an important scientific workshop on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, titled:
“Chemical Security Risk Assessment (CSRA) Training for Academic Institutions.”

The workshop was held in the presence of Honorable Prof. Dr. Diyar Abdulkarim Saeed, President of the University of Zakho, along with the Vice Presidents of the University, a representative from the Civil Defense Directorate in Zakho, and a significant number of professors, specialists, and university students.

Main Objectives of the Workshop:
• Raising Awareness: Spreading the culture of chemical security and protection among teachers and students.
• Risk Assessment: Identifying and defining scientific mechanisms for handling chemical substances within laboratories and academic centers.
• Improving the Protection System: Providing a safe educational and research environment within the university.

Presentation of Scientific Topics:
Within the framework of the workshop, several scientific and practical themes and topics were presented by a committee of expert and specialized professors, consisting of:
1. Dr. Kanaan Ramadan Ahmed
2. Ms. Samira Shukir Mohammed Amin
3. Mr. Mohammed Ihsan Hamoudi
4. Mr. Laith Hussein Ali

Results and Recommendations:
At the conclusion of the workshop, a scientific discussion was held among the attendees, emphasizing the importance of continuous awareness in the field of chemical security. Furthermore, it was recommended that the process of risk documentation within academic institutions should become a part of the laboratory administrative system, while continuing these types of activities and courses to protect public safety.
